Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Pigs-In-A-Blanket are a party favorite that people never seem to tire of — they’re just so cute and good! While we’re all used to having the kind that hail from the freezer section of the grocery store, we wanted to find out just how much better they’d taste from scratch. We’re pleased to report that these little piggies are absolutely scrumptious we could eat a hundred! (Or at least way more than is actually recommended.)

Normally, the dough-making of any recipe is kind of a drag, but we have a super simple fix for that; this dough doesn’t require any waiting around or beating down, so there’s no need to spend your afternoon constantly checking the clock score!

Pigs In A Blanket

Yields 16-20 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8-10 hot dogs, halved
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon milk
  • sesame seeds, garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375∫ F.
  2. In a large bowl or mixer, combine flour, water, oil, baking powder and salt. (Be careful with hot water.)
  3. Stir in cheddar cheese and mix until dough comes together, adding 1-2 tablespoons more flour if mixture is too wet, or 1-2 more tablespoons water if it’s too dry.
  4. Roll dough out on a very lightly floured surface (you shouldn’t need much flour) and divide in half.
  5. Roll each half into a large rectangle that is 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Using a sharp knife of pizza cutter, cut dough in a zig-zag motion to form 8-10 triangles.
  7. Repeat with the other half of dough.
  8. Take hot dog and place horizontally on the wide end of one dough triangle. Carefully roll the hot dog away from yourself, towards the pointy end of the triangle.
  9. Once wrapped, transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet with the pointy-tip seam facing up. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough.
  10. Place beaten eggs in a small bowl and pour in milk. Brush the tops of blankets with egg wash to give them a shiny glaze once they bake.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until dough is cooked through and golden brown.
  12. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  13. Serve warm.
