6. Unsweetened Applesauce Instead Of Sugar

In the baking world, sugar is a key ingredient for many recipes. High amounts of sugar can be avoided by harnessing the natural sweetness of applesauce to flavor your goodies. When used in baked goods, the excess liquid in the applesauce evaporates, making it easy to substitute applesauce for sugar in equal proportions. For non-baked recipes, one has to reduce the amount of liquid in a recipe before making an even swap. Try it out; it works great in brownies!

5. Greek Yogurt For Sour Cream/ Mayonnaise

Unflavored Greek yogurt has almost 1/3 less fat and calories than sour cream. The health benefits are even higher when compared to mayonnaise. The key is to choose a healthy Greek yogurt, one that is unflavored and fat-free. It is easily flavored as a dipping sauce and goes well with Mexican cuisine!
