For those of us who cook and bake at home, we end up going through the same ingredients over and over again: sugar, flour, eggs, etc. Where does it end! But there are simple substitutions that every at-home chef needs to know in order to have delectable food that’s also healthy. If you are tired of dumping fats and sugars into your dishes, try out these delicious ingredient-hacks to add nutrients into your recipes!

8. Coconut Oil Instead Of Vegetable Oil

Coconut oil is naturally sweet and is a great substitution in baking. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature but usually comes in a glass jar. All you need to do is heat up the solid oil in the microwave and pour out your desired amount. Coconut oil has different fats than other oils called Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT’s). Some studies have shown that MCT’s can have therapeutic affects on the brain and blood, helping with disorders like Alzheimer’s and epilepsy!

7. Almond Milk For Cow’s Milk

Almond milk is a great parallel substitution for cow’s milk because it adds unique flavor to your dishes and cuts down on fat and cholesterol! This plant-based product contains no saturated fats or cholesterol and is packed with vitamins and minerals. Try using it in smoothies or for breakfast dishes to add a soft nutty flavor to the palate.
